This article is a summary of a session on LangDev'2024 held in Seville.
As part of LangDev 2024 Pedro J. Molina delivered a talk that explored how Feature Models can be leveraged in the field of space missions to address challenges in design, validation, and operation.
Feature Models are powerful abstractions used to decompose in components, configure Space Missions and double check constraints are enforced in design & validation time.
During his presentation, he described his vision to trace requirements to Feature Models enhanced with physical dimensions (constraints). He also addressed how each component or feature can be used as the source abstraction to derive the SW concepts for embarked components and, at the same time, the virtual representation on a Digital Twin for the Ground Segment, that can be used both for simulation and for operation & real telemetry in mission time.
This approach provides a cohesive way to introduce models as the key driver of a Space Mission with impact in design, prototype, validation, embarked components and ground segments for tracking and operation. The talk delivered by Pedro J. Molina at LangDev 2024 highlights the fundamental role of Feature Models as a key tool in managing complex systems, such as space missions. His innovative approach integrates physical dimensions and Digital Twins, establishing a solid foundation for efficient design, validation, and operation of these systems.
